DEI Initiatives
Pride Bands Alliance believes that arts and culture are essential to maintaining a healthy culture and society. As an LGBTQ+ arts organization, we acknowledge our duty to champion initiatives that promote diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI). We demonstrate commitment to these principles by engaging in intentional acts and practices that support:
- Understanding the interconnection of cultures and humanity;
- Exercising mutual respect for experiences and characteristics that differ from our own;
- Appreciating that diversity entails not only being, but knowing.
Pride Bands Alliance is dedicated to creating and maintaining a culture of belonging. We are committed to building awareness and understanding of biases, be they unconscious or explicit. We are committed to having a board that is representative of the communities in which we serve. We are committed to the education and empowerment of our members in promoting these initiatives. We also commit to soliciting input from our member organizations in an effort to give voice to a variety of solutions.
Current recommendations to realize diversity, equity and inclusion for Pride Bands include but are not limited to:
- Ensure inclusive language across all policies and procedures
- Create avenues for honest and tough discussions via online and in-person forums
- Partner with organizations in underserved communities
- Share DEI resources with Member Bands
- Engage with diverse vendors, clinicians, composers and artists.
As an organization, the minimum expectation is that we all commit to engaging in personal conduct consistent with these objectives. We consider our diversity to be one of our greatest strengths and assets. Our motto of “Music, Visibility and Pride” serves notice that we expect to be acknowledged and respected as valued members of our communities.
