LGBA Board Nominations are Open!

All boards benefit from having different voices and perspectives, and LGBA is no different.

The current board would like to encourage more people across LGBA to run for the LGBA Board of Directors. We need all our letters, as well as all our colors, all our genders, all our ages, all our experiences, so the Board reflects the diversity of our mission. The position is a two year term.

What does it mean to be on the LGBA Board?

The LGBA Board is comprised of four (4) Officers and twelve (12) Board Members, elected by the Assembly of Delegates. Board members are responsible for maintaining the day-to-day business of the Lesbian and Gay Band Association. Officers and Board Members are responsible for planning international events, communicating with membership, helping to start new bands, managing the annual budget, and fundraising.

You should consider serving on the LGBA Board if…

You have been in a leadership position in your band or other non-profit (board member or officer) for at least (1) one year.
You have attended at least one LGBA Conference or Event.
You have a specific skill, such as fundraising/development, marketing, web design, legal, accounting or strategic/organizational planning and would like to volunteer your services to improve the LGBA organization.
You can attend monthly meetings via phone conference and semi-annual on-site meetings (annual conference and mid-year meeting)
You love band and want to help others to have the kind of experiences you have had through LGBA.

The LGBA Board meets monthly via phone conference. This meeting usually takes place on a Sunday morning, at 8:00 am Pacific / 9:00 am Mountain / 10:00 am Central / 11:00 am Eastern. An agenda is provided in advance, and the meetings are typically 90 minutes in length. If elected, board members are expected to attend at least 75% of these meetings, or 9 of 12 per year.

The LGBA Board meets two times per year in person — once at the annual conference and once mid-year. All Board Members are volunteers and travel at their own expense. Mid-year board meetings are held over a weekend, but 3-4 days may be required depending upon travel time. If elected, it is desired that the board members attend both meetings. One (1) meeting is mandatory.

Work is managed through committees. If elected, board members are expected to contribute to at least one (2) committees. The committees include the following:
