2019 Conference Scholarships

In keeping with LGBA mission and core values of promoting music, visibility, and pride for all; we are committed to continue providing performance opportunities for band members with limited financial resources to participate in the LGBA Annual Conference.

The 2019 LGBA Annual Conference will be held from October 10–13, in Orlando Florida. The conference theme is “Looking Back, Marching Forward,” recognizing the tragic Pulse nightclub shooting as well as the Stonewall Riots of 1969 and the resulting coming together of the GLBT community as one to stand up against hate. We will celebrate that coming together to look back at the past, learn from it and march forward. LGBA is now accepting Scholarship applications to help defray some of the conference costs.

All LGBA Band Members or LGBA Affiliate Members who have demonstrated a commitment to LGBA and their respective band(s) are eligible to apply for this Scholarship. If selected, the recipient will receive a Scholarship of up to $300. The total amount of Scholarship awarded to each recipient is dependent on contributions to the scholarship fund for that year. While all band members are welcomed to apply for this Scholarship, we encourage only those who are truly in need of financial assistance to apply.

Please submit your completed online application, and forward one letter of recommendation from a member of your band’s leadership team or board of directors to scholarships@lgba.org by April 2, 2019. The Scholarship Committee will send a couple of reminders as the deadline approaches. By submitting a Scholarship application, you give your consent for LGBA Scholarship Committee to make necessary inquiries to confirm financial hardships, obligations, and information, if needed.

On behalf of the LGBA Conference Oversight Committee, the Scholarship Committee will review all completed applications and submit their recommendations to the LGBA Board of Directors for approval. All applicants will be notified of the final determination on or before June 15, 2019. Arrangements for electronic delivery of the award to the recipients will be made at that time.

Historically, LGBA has used PayPal, an American company operating a worldwide online payments system that supports online money transfers and serves as an alternative to traditional paper methods like checks and money orders.

If you are NOT in need of financial assistance but would like to contribute to the scholarship fund, please consider helping out your fellow bandmates at the donation link on the LGBA website. Indicate in the comments section that the donation is for conference scholarships. You may also donate on the LGBA Facebook page.

If you have any questions, please don’t hesitate to contact me at nicole.fallin@lgba.org or the Scholarship Committee at scholarships@lgba.org. All questions and inquiries will be responded promptly.

Best regards,

Nicole
